Children's Mental Health Child aged 11 Diagnosed with ADHD at 3 years of age Prescribed various medications at present Dexamphetamine Has been on medication for 8 years continuously At Vibrant Wellness we have designed a Comprehensive Children’s Health Questionnaire that greatly contributes to gaining the medical history of the child. What we have found is that the majority of children diagnosed with ADD and ADHD have a medical history of immune dysfunction and gastrointestinal problems. This child was no exception. This child had significant food allergies and had a history of chronic otitis media (inner ear fluid and inflammation). We organised an IgG food panel (blood test) to identify food sensitivities. Chronic ear, nose and throat issues meant this child had poor sleep quality, snored, was a mouth breathing, had lack of oxygen to the brain at night, was tired and grumpy in the morning and therefore unable to concentrate at school. What was concerning was that there had been no discussions about when and how this child was going to come off the medication and how to do that safely. Without Mum’s 100% commitment we would not have achieved the success we have had. Gradually the child has been weaned off the Dexamphetamine and is going very well on all accounts, is strengthening every day, has accepted a low dairy diet which is supported by digestive enzymes designed for dairy and takes the Natural Medicines willingly. We are delighted with the progress and we firmly believe that this child was misdiagnosed at 3, placed on drugs without due consideration to the physical medical issues that were creating the illness.
